Educational simulation center EdukaSim

Client: Karlovac County Emergency Medicine Department
Category: Public sector, healthcare
Technology: WordPress, PHP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, CorelDraw
About the client:
EduKaSim is the Karlovac Educational Simulation Center, which operates within the Karlovac County Institute of Emergency Medicine. The center specializes in professional training and advanced training of healthcare professionals working in the emergency medicine system — medical doctors, nurses and technicians, emergency medical service team drivers and medical registration and notification unit dispatchers. Education is conducted through accredited educational programs, one-day modular courses and internal education, and is methodologically based on a combination of interactive lectures, skills workshops, simulation exercises in real scenarios and debriefing. It is a specialized educational institution whose mission is directly related to the quality and safety of emergency medical care in Croatia.

Project description:
An educational center of this profile has a specific digital need — it is not enough to just present services, but also to enable a simple and reliable application process for courses and programs. Healthcare professionals seeking professional development need to quickly find relevant programs, understand what awaits them, and apply without complications — individually or as a group. In addition, as an institution in the public healthcare system, the center is obliged to comply with legal standards of digital accessibility. In addition to the website, the project also included the creation of a logo that visually positions EduKaSim as a serious and recognizable educational institution.
Process:
We took on the project in its entirety — from logo design, WordPress site development, and implementation of online application forms, to digital accessibility and handover to the client.
Logo design
The logo was created in CorelDRAW as the starting point for the visual identity of the center. The design needed to communicate the expertise, reliability, and medical seriousness of the institution, while at the same time being distinctive enough to position EduKaSim recognizably within the broader ecosystem of the Karlovac Institute of Emergency Medicine. The logo was consistently applied throughout the entire website and all visual elements of the center's identity.
Presentation website
The site is structured around three key categories of educational offerings — accredited educational programs for IHMS and MPDJ employees, modular courses open to individual participants and groups, and internal education that includes basic and continuing education of workers. Each program and course has its own page with a detailed description of the content, acquired competencies, and methods of implementation — which provides healthcare professionals and their employers with all the information they need to make an application decision.
In addition to the educational offer, the site presents the equipment available at the center, a price list for services and space rental, and a blog with current content in the field of emergency medicine and education.
Online application forms
One of the functional key elements of the project was the implementation of online application forms for modular courses — separately for individual participants and for groups. The forms were designed to collect all relevant data necessary for the organization of the course, and were implemented with an emphasis on ease of completion and clear feedback to the user after successful registration. For a center that regularly organizes courses with a limited number of places, a functional and reliable online application system directly affects the efficiency of administrative processes.
Digital Accessibility (WCAG)
As an institution in the public health system, EduKaSim is obliged to implement the WCAG digital accessibility standards, which is confirmed by the Digital Accessibility Statement published on the website. The implementation included semantically correct HTML, appropriate color contrast according to the WCAG AA standard, full keyboard navigability including online application forms, ARIA tags for all interactive elements, properly marked forms with clear error messages, and text alternatives for all visual content. The accessibility of application forms is a particularly important dimension — every step of the application process must be technically correct and accessible to users of assistive technologies.
Responsiveness
The site is fully responsive and optimized for all devices. Healthcare professionals researching training opportunities often do so on mobile devices outside of work hours — making the mobile experience just as important as the desktop version.
Challenges
A specific challenge of this project was the combination of highly professional educational content and the need for a simple user experience. Program and course descriptions include medical terms and professional competencies that must be accurately presented for a professional audience — doctors and medical technicians — while at the same time being organized clearly enough for the user to effortlessly find the right program and access the application without hesitation.
The implementation of accessible online forms is an additional technical requirement that standard WordPress forms often do not meet without additional work — every element of the form, from labels and placeholder text to messages about validation and successful registration, must be technically correct for users of assistive technologies.
Result
A complete visual identity and a functional WordPress website were delivered, positioning EduKaSim as a recognizable and professional educational institution in the emergency medicine system. The website enables online registration for courses for individual participants and groups, meets legal obligations of digital accessibility, and provides healthcare professionals with a clear and reliable source of information about professional development opportunities.
